Hot tubs and pools construct quality family time together :0)

When we bought our current house, we decided to re-finish the back yard and install a pool and a hot tub. I was your typical mother worried about safety, especially with 3 young children under the age of 5! To be honest, I wavered with the idea for quite some time…wanting a pool but worried, not wanting a pool but thinking it would be fun…and so on and so forth. I finally decided to put aside my worried and let my husband get a pool and a hot tub installed. Well, let me tell you how happy I am that we did put one in!
We’ve had it 3 years now and we use it all the time! All 3 of my kids learned how to swim alone (under a very sharp, eagle eye of mom and dad) by the age of 3 and have learned about safety and concerns around water. We’ve had the area fenced off securely and have had no problems at all with safety as they kids have been well educated in regards to bodies of water (which is great as we live near many lakes, rivers and such).
The time we spend together as a family in the pool area is so fun and so often! I love that when my husband comes home from work, the kids want to go play in the pool with him, even after being in there all day themselves! We spend almost every weekend together as a family. I love that the neighbour kids want to come to our place all summer and that my kids want friends over to our house too instead of wanting to go everywhere but home. I love the constant and healthy exercise that they exert all day swimming around and making up games in the pool. I like that my husband and I can sit and enjoy the sunshine by the pool while the kids are contently entertained. I love it when it gets dark on summer nights and we go for a quiet swim in the dark under the starry skies. I have to admit to having a few evenings of playing cards out by the light of the pool with a few girlfriends too! Hey, mom’s get to enjoy some pool time without the kids too! Such great fun, all of it!
We also put a hot tub in by the pool and we enjoy that year round! We especially love, on a snowy winters nights, bringing the kids outside in the warm tub and make up games to play together. It’s so fun and I know my kids love the time together as much as my husband and I do. It’s fantastic to have on earlier and later pool dates too, when the summer sun isn’t too hot but everyone is too anxious to use the pool or the autumn days are sadly drawing our pool days to an end. A cool dip in the pool and a warm up in the tub!
I have so enjoyed the family time that the pool and hot tub have provided for us and I look forward to the day that my 3 small children will one day grow up and show up with their 8 teenage friends wanting to swim and continue on enjoying the pool. Maybe that’s an naive dream, but then again, maybe not ;0
