Have Your Electronics Gone for a Swim?

Alright folks, Christmas is over and everyone is enjoying their new iPods, iPhones, iTouches, iPads and whatever kind of electronic Santa left under your tree. As an experienced hot tubber and pool swimmer, let me give you a simple and basic word of advice…leave the electronics inside while using your hot tub or swimming pool! Ha! Sounds like common sense hey? You’d be surprised at how many people take their electronics a little too close to the water. Over confidence that it will be safe is not usually a good plan. Even having them around the hot tub and pool is not a wise choice as little guys tend to migrate to these devices and don’t think through the ramifications of water and electronics.
So let’s just say you’ve had one of those not so bright moments and have gotten your electronic device a little too wet. You can give these long shot suggestions a quick try.
1. Take the battery out asap! Don’t turn it on as it can short circuit your device. If it has a SIM card, take it out as well because you may still be able to get the memory from it if your device cannot be revived.
2. Try to get the water out asap. try a vacuum cleaner, not a heating device like a hair dryer to get the water out. Heat will damage it more. If it was in salt water, give it a quick rinse with clean water to avoid corrosion.
3. Try to absorb as much water as possible. A suggestion to do this is to submerge the device in a bowl of uncooked rice. Don’t laugh, it has worked in the past and if you’re desperate, you’ll do it!
If these steps do not revive your electronic device, you had better hope the Easter bunny is as nice as Santa! I know Santa left me a submergible house phone! I wonder what he was hinting! Either I am clumsy or unreachable by phone! But better yet, before you learn your lesson the hard way, leave all your electronic devices inside while enjoying your hot tub or pool. Let it be a time to reflect by yourself or a time to spend uninterrupted time with your family and friends. Our world is much too accessible now a days, make yourself unaccessible for a short time and enjoy life :0)
