Jacuzzi parts: This clip from the Big Bang Theory and it is so funny as it is ACTUALLY very true! Jacuzzi is not simply a “hot tub” but an actual BRAND of hot tub. Many people use the words interchangeably…Jacuzzi/hot tub. So while the two words are the same to some people, it is because the Jacuzzi bothers are the pioneers when it comes to inventing a hot tub. Thus, the Jacuzzi hot tub is the leader when it comes to all hot tubs.

Even so, whether you call your hot tub a “Jacuzzi” or spa, Gopoolandspa.com sell all kinds of hot tub parts, even Jacuzzi parts.

Hot tubs are used as a source of relaxation and stress release for many people. After a long days of work, to be able to come home and relax in your spa is like heaven on earth! Yet all hot tub owners have been there when you get all ready for a relaxing soak in your hot tub only to open the lid to find your water balance is not right. Water testing gone wrong! The water could look murky, foggy, smell funny or even be green! Very frustrating! Argh!

How is it that you can easily keep your hot tub water chemistry balanced just right so that when you are aching to get into your hot tub, it’s ready to go. Water testing is key in keeping your water balanced. Many people do not realize that hot tub water needs to be kept on top of as when it starts to go bad, it can go very bad very quickly. Water testing strips are a great way to do water testing and they are so simple to use too! There are two very simple water testing kits to use: liquid and strips.

LIQUID WATER TESTING KIT:

WATER TESTING STRIPS:

Both water testing kits are simple to use however, most hot tub owners prefer the strips because they are less mess and take under a minute to test!

Water testing isn’t hard and complicated. In fact, water chemistry is really quite simple. Pretty much if you have the total alkalinity, free chlorine and pH levels balanced, then most hot tub water is balanced.

Total Alkalinity-this acts as a shock absorber for the pH levels, like a buffer. if the total alkalinity isn’t balanced properly, your pH levels will be out as well. So always try to keep total alkalinity at a range between 80-120 ppm (parts per million).

pH-this measures how acidic your water is. If your pH is out of balance, it could potentially ruin your hot tub equipment. Keep your pH between 7.2-8.2

Free Chlorine-this is chlorine that is not combined with anything. This chemical keeps your tub clean, clear and ready to use. There are also many other substances to use other than chlorine as many people are sensitive to chlorine.

See? Water testing and water balance can be quite simple!

Did you know that hot tub filters are the HARDEST working part of you hot tub? When it comes to clean, clear water, hot tub filters are doing the hardest job there is to keep your spa water looking great. Hot tub filters are an essential part of your hot tub to have that quality water that every spa owner wants in their hot tub. Since hot tub filters are constantly collecting dirt, debris, oils and all other kinds of junk in your spa water, they tend to need a little love.

Because they are hidden, many hot tub owners forget about them. Many service call are simply due to clogged, old and worn out filters. You probably don’t even really think about it but old filters can strain your hot tub pump and motor too! This leads to dirtier water and also can consume more energy than a hot tub needs to. Hot tub filters should be cleaned and cared for every 3 months or so, or at least every time you change your hot tub water (which should be at LEAST twice a year). Clean and cared for hot tub filters will save you energy costs and eliminate odours and tiny bits of debris that collect in your water.

Cleaning hot tub filters is very simple. All you do is remove it from the housing unit and spray it off gently with a garden hose. Be careful not to use too much pressure that you damage the pleats but enough pressure to clean the junk off. Then once it has been washed off with the garden hose, just let the hot tub filter dry completely in the sun and replace it back into the hot tub! So Simple! If you’re finding that the filter didn’t get clean enough, then just soak it overnight in a filter cleaning solution and rinse it again the next day. It is also recommended that your change your hot tub filters annually. This just ensures that your hot tub water is getting the love it needs. Especially if you are using the hot tub daily, hot tub filters will tend to take more of a beating.

GoPoolandSpa.com has any and every hot tub filter for pretty much any and every make, model and brand of hot tub! And if you don’t see the hot tub filters you need, email us and we will be happy to get it to you and add it to our collection. We also have hot tub filter maintenance programs. All we do is send you an annual filter right to your doorstep every year and just by it showing up to your house, you will remember that it is time for that hot tub filter change! Please inquire by contacting us here!

You know the saying, “it’s what’s on the inside that counts”? We it’s very true when it comes to the inside of a hot tub! A hot tub can look amazing on the outside with all the bells and whistles but if the inside isn’t measuring up, it will be no good to you. The inside part of the hot tub that mainly counts is the pump. Without the hot tub pump, there is no hot tub, just a “tub”.

The hot tub pump is commonly known as the “heart” of the hot tub. The water inside the tub is pulled through the intakes of the spa and pumped through the hot tub heater to create warm, hot water that is then pumped back out through the jets and into your hot tub. So all that hot water in your spa happens because of the hot tub pump. Yes, the heater also plays a big part but without a working pump, water cannot get to the heater itself.

The hot tub pump is generally made up of two main parts: the motor and the wet end, which contains the impeller. The motor basically makes the impeller turn which then helps the water move through the entire system passing the heater and then it is pushed through the jets to create the massage every hot tub lover is looking for.

Like any type of mechanics, the hot tub pump can develop problem issues. Below are only some problem issues but keep in mind that there are numerous amounts of issues that could be wrong besides the ones listed. Most problems are related to just being worn out and older. Some common problems with the hot tub pump are:

leaks around the pump caused by old or worn out seals

worn out bearings

frozen shaft

clogged up or broken impeller

old and worn out hot tub pump

improper voltage for the pump

How do you know if you need a new pump or if your original hot tub pump can be fixed? First of all, if you have a newer hot tub, most likely, the problem can be fixed without replacing the entire hot tub pump. Check the above common problems and if none of them fit, it may be time to call your local hot tub service technician.

If you are needing to replace the entire hot tub pump, keep in mind these important points when choosing which hot tub pump is right for you.

Horsepower- make sure you have the correct horsepower for your hot tub. If you are not sure than just take the original horsepower from the motor that was originally installed. If your controls and electrical system can accommodate it, you make be able to increase the HP by one only. But it is recommended you stay at the original HP for obvious reasons.

Voltage- make sure your outlet voltage will correspond with your hot tub pump voltage. Not all hot tubs that are wired for 220V will use a 220V pump. Again, checking the original pump will help you determine which voltage is best for you.

Pump Speed- this determines the amount of pressure the jets have. The majority of hot tub pumps will have 2 speeds.

Motor Frame Size- it will either be a 48 or 56 inch frame. The old motor should have the size you need on it.

Plumbing size- make sure the new hot tub pump you order is the same size as the original pump. There are usually only 3 sizes, 1.5”, 2” or 2.5”

Center or side discharge pump- take note of the discharge part of the pump. Is it in the center or on the left side? You need to make sure it’s the same as the original hot tub pump.

Once you figure out which hot tub pump you need, take extra care to order the correct one so you don’t have to delay using your hot tub!

Tips on how to install your new hot tub pump can be found on our blog site as well!

As always, happy tubbing!

Leaks are a common problem when it comes to hot tubs. Most leaks occur out of normal usage and age of your hot tub. In order to diagnose a hot tub leak, you have to make sure the hot tub is losing water. Obviously, there will be water loss in your hot tub. Remember that some water loss is normal, but we’re talking about obvious water loss. Locating the leak can be a harder task as sometimes the leaking point is hidden and unseen. Leaks can be found by using a dry hand and towel to detect water loss. Below are some places to check out to help you find and repair your leaking hot tub.

The hot tub pump. Many leaks occur at the pump site of the hot tub. The majority of times, the leak is caused by a faulty seal or loosed parts. Especially during shipment, many components get rattled and loosen so try just even tightening the parts around the pump site. Remember to only tighten by hand as tightening with tools usually result in cracks and breakage.

Hot tub valves. Valves are another common place for hot tub leakage. A valve is simply a device that regulates, controls or directs your water. It works by opening and closing pathways for the water. The valves contain gaskets and seals that may need to be replaced. Remember to check all valves including the air controls! Valves are readily replaceable too.

Hot tub heater. The heater assembly manifold can also leak. If the hot tub heater is leaking, you may also experience some heat loss.

Hot tub jets. All jets accommodate massive water pressure and can leak from time to time. A leak around a jet may also cause that jet to have less water pressure inside the hot tub as well. Jets are accompanied by seals and gaskets too. Just tightening them may fix a leak or replacing the seals and gaskets. This is a cheap fix to any leak. Jet are also replaceable.

Plumbing and pipes. Cracks can happen in the plumbing lines in the guts of a hot tub. Sometimes it is possible to fix them with PVC sealing glue. Depending on the crack size, the pipes may need to be replaced entirely. You’ll know when you see the crack.

Hot tub shell. Very rarely is this the cause for hot tub leakage. Shells are made with strong fiberglass that are hard to crack. However, shipment trauma of some sort could cause a crack. They are able to be repaired though with a PVC bonding product.

After checking all of theses major leakage areas on your hot tub and you still are unable to locate the leak, you can try a few more ideas. Try leaving the hot tub to empty itself and see where the water stops leaking. Depending on where the water stops leaking, will be a good indicator as to where the leak is starting. Also adding coloring to your water may help you indicate the leak too.

If all else fails, your local hot tub technician will be able to help you fix your leaking problems.

Happy tubbing

This time of year, hot tubs are fondly thought of. With the cooler weather, shorter days and longer nights, hot tubs are a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the fall and winter months without going crazy. They are a little get away in itself. When you are considering buying a hot tub, you have a few options. You could buy a used one from a private sale or you can purchase a new one from a dealer. Both are good options with pro’s and con’s to each.

Buying a Used Hot Tub Pro’s and Con’s

you have to move it yourself and set all of that up on your own and this can cost more than you think as dealers would have better pricing from the mass product they move

you need to do preparation work for your hot tub at your home and install it yourself

the warranty will be expired or void as some dealers have void warranties if resold privately

there are usually unseen repairs

BUT, you will initially save money buying used (however, I do not believe so in the long run)

Buying a New Hot Tub Pro’s and Con’s

comes with full warranty

usually the final price includes delivery and set up

help with sire preparation and recommendations for help

some dealers have used hot tubs that will be thoroughly inspected for resale thus giving you peace of mind as a consumer

Either way of purchasing is ok but please take into consideration of buyer’s beware. Sometimes the price point is a make or break but consider the long run costs. You really don’t want to get stuck with a second hand dud when you could be enjoying the benefits of a hot tub from a authorized dealer. They will make sure all of the hot tub pumps, jets, electrical and parts are working and properly functioning.

Jacuzzi brand of hot tubs has recently launched a new water purification system called “Clear Ray”. Many spa owners are annoyed and frustrated and sometimes clueless with their hot tub water. With the new Clear Ray technology system, many spa owners are satisfied and relieved to have this installed in their hot tub to alleviate their concern about their spa water.

Clear Ray is a UV-C technology that keeps your hot tub water crystal clear with little effort and minimal chemicals. This is done through a natural process without additives coming into your spa water. UV-C light basically takes down the bacteria in your water and it banishes their ability to reproduce.

Benefits of Clear Ray:

Able to kill above 99% of water borne bacterias!!

Eliminates all chemical smells that can be noticed in your spa water.

Clear Ray is a chemical free system, this will be easier on your vinyl cover, safe for the acrylic and easy on your skin, eyes and hair!

Maintenance on the water in your hot tub is minimal (only shock and pH balance) and all that needs to be done is a yearly light bulb change.

Saves money by reducing the amount of chemicals needed over time.

Easy to manage and produces amazing results.

Clear Ray now comes standard in all 2012 Jacuzzi models but can be added to any spa.

Can be installed to any hot tub with little effort by a qualified technician.

As spring has sprung around the globe. Winter is packing up and leaving for a while. Boots and mittens are being stored, flip flops and t-shirts are slowly making their way to the closets, the sun is shining through your windows reminding of how dirty they are. And I laugh. Obviously, I am from the northern parts of the continent…for some of you, the flip flops stay out year round. But not for me! As I was out doing spring cleaning in the yard this past weekend, this included polishing up the hot tub and making it look all ready for poolside company. I realized, I had better check the filter too! YIKES! Even me, a writer for a pool and spa company can be forgetful of things unseen. A while ago I published a blog about loving on your hot tub filter! Oops! It had been a little while. I pulled it out of its housing and realized that it could no longer do a good job of filtering my hot tub water. Time for a new one! A week after I put in the new one, the water still looks amazing. It is definitely combing my hot tub water with a fine tooth and comb! Looking good!

Don’t forget about that hot tub filter!

Backyard pools are so much fun and relaxing for families and friends. Many hours are spent splashing, playing, diving, lazing on an air mattress catching glorious rays with a refreshing drink in hand and even just congregating around the pool to socialize and enjoy the view of the water. Your backyard pool is fantastic when it comes to relaxing, socializing and enjoying. Now I know that you don’t want to think of your pool as a place of work, but did you remember that daily workouts can be done in your swimming pool too? The pool is a great place to fit in your daily exercise plan right in your own yard, in your own pool and in the comforts of your home.

Swimming workouts are beneficial to your health in many ways. Swimming is a fantastic way to increase your cardiovascular health. Vigorous swimming can increase your heart rate causing you to get a comfortable aerobic workout into your day. It doesn’t even take long! Twenty minutes is all it takes to have a healthy lifestyle! Vigorous swimming is even comparable to running as your have to use your entire body to swim. The water around you also provides a decent amount of resistance to your legs and arms giving you the opportunity to increase your muscle strength as well without the use of weights and heavy equipment. Water is much more gentle when it comes to increasing muscle strength, especially if you struggle with arthritis or osteoporosis within your body. Water provides enough resistance to gain the muscle strength you need if you are looking for a gentle way of “lifting weights”. You also use muscles while swimming that you would not normally use otherwise. Let’s not forget that swimming is a fantastic stress reliever. The water encompassing your body feels amazing, refreshing and invigorating! Did you know that you can also add swim jets to your pool via the pool pump motor? It provides a rush of water that gives enough force to push you while you swim up against it’s current. Kinda of like a water treadmill!

Some excellent water workouts are available to experience. Any types of laps are a great way to start. There are so many types of strokes to try that will move all different muscles especially in your upper body. Try the butterfly stroke, breast stroke, back stroke and side stroke. These kids of strokes are not complicated so almost anyone can try them. Don’t forget to switch them up for a full body workout! Also grab some swimming pool supplies like a cheap kick board to do a few laps with or water weights to add a little more resistance to your workout! Also just 5 minutes of treading water is an excellent and challenging way to increase your legs shape and tone. No cheating tho! Try longer than 5 minutes for a more challenging time! If you want to really get creative, hop online and you tube some water aerobic moves then pump up your favourite rocking music and give it a go yourself! If you’re a little reserved, do it while no ones around ;0)

Either way, water is a splendid way to get your body moving at a price that won’t hurt your body long term. It’s gentle on your bones, great cardiovascular workout, gentle resistance training and fun too! Don’t just sit around your pool with a drink in hand while the kids swim, find a little time for yourself in there as well to get your body moving! Find ways to involve the kids too! Race them with laps or get them to be the aerobic instructor! Either way, your backyard pool is a fabulous tool to get you into fabulous shape this summer! Happy swimming!
