A spa relay is basically a switch that relays power along the hot tub electrical system. It can get complicated because spa relays also serve as a mount for more than one switch. They can be powered up by air, which are air receiving relays, OR by a magnetic coil. Air receiving relays receives air that is passed through your tube connected to your button at the spa side that feeds the pumps, lights, blowers, heaters, etc. and momentary receiving relays which send a pulse to electricity to the coil of an coil activated relay.
Contactors are a switch controlled electrically and are used for switching a power circuit. They are basically a heavy duty relay but the difference is a higher current rating. These allow for more heavier current flow to a heater.
