High limit switches tests the water temperature in the actual heating house, not the water temperature of the hot tub water. If there is a problem with your high limit switch, you will experience either no power, no heat or the switch will trip too soon. If your switch is switching too soon, there is most likely a problem with the flow and there will be little or no flow at all through the heater. Sometimes, the hi limit switch trips too often at the end of the heating cycle. This is usually because the heating cycle has reached the desired temperature. But sometimes the element temperature goes up and trips the hi limit. This is when the switch should be replaced. You may also adjust the switch but do so carefully as tripping switch usually means there is a bigger problem. Remember hi limit switches are there as a prevention of overheating and act as a safety device!
